Exterior Finishing Details

Location, location and location: This home is located on Odin Road in the Knoll Development just south of the main village of Silver Star Mountain Resort. As you turn on to Odin Road, you look right at this home and therefore the exterior finishing/featuring of the home needed to be very extraordinary. By using timbers/beams/craftman’s style handrails/natural cedar siding and designer’s attention to balancing the details, this home is probably one of the more whistler style homes on the mountain.

The following are some short notes on the exterior finishing details:

Attention to detail and design excellence - Silver Star Mountain Resort Ski Vacation HomeTimbers: Extensive use of heavy fir timber post and beams gives this ski home the look that everybody is looking for. Black iron connectors connect all the post/beams to give this home a solid sound appeal.

Siding: Natural cedar siding was used to again give this home a look that most mountain homes are known for. Cedar shingles and vertical board and batten are two of the best known siding types for a home of this quality.

Roofing: Two types of roofing finishing were used. The roof is made up of sloped and flat. The sloped areas were finished with a heavy character asphalt shingle and the flat areas were finished with a typical two ply torch on system. All roof edges were metal flashed with a penny copper flashing to give the roof lines a little more definition.

Rock Work: Natural local stone.

Stairs/Decking: Heavy fir timber and pressure treated lumber.

Railings: Metal painted black with a fir timber cap.

Windows: Vinyl full slash with low “e” energy saving glass.

Concrete: Stamped featured concrete slab at both entrances.

Lighting: Four types of lighting. First are the décor light which add to the exterior character. Second is the two front sign lighting which are strictly used for featuring the front sand blasted signs. Third and my favorite, clear Christmas lights running around all the covered walkways and decks. This is the light that adds so much to the night time exterior look of this home. And finally there’s two colored flood lights on the back of the home that light up the snow covered trees which are viewed from inside the home.
